Installing OrChem



To install the demo version of OrChem: 



1. Download orchem.zip from http://www.orchem.ca or insert the provided demo disk

3. Locate the file on your computer and unpack

4. Double click on the file to begin installation

5. Once the installation program pops-up on your screen follow the given directions

6. Once installation is complete you will be able to run the demo version of OrChem from your chosen destination or from your desktop

Running OrChem



OrChem comes in the Teacher and the Student versions. The Student version is limited in its functions and is used to answer questions (contains only 'Question' mode). The Teacher version allows the user to answer as well as edit questions (contains 'Question' and 'Edit' mode).  In addition the Teacher version contains a 'Results' organizer, which allows for the import and manipulation of students' marks, particularly to export selected marks into Excel. 



This OrChemDemo is set-up in the Teacher mode and allows you to both edit and answer questions. To start the program, please follow the given steps: 



1. Locate OrChem in your directory or on your desktop and open by double clicking on the OrChem icon

2. Select 'Help/Quickstart' from the top menu

3. Read over the 'Quickstart' file to get a feel for how the program works

4. Use 'Open' for 'Question' mode and 'Edit' for 'Edit' mode

5. In 'Question' mode read over the question and answer

6. In 'Edit' mode use the scroll bar to select text/structures to edit



The demo comes with seven complete OrChem questions located in the same directory as the application. Six of the seven questions can be opened in 'Question' and 'Edit' mode but changes made to them cannot be saved.  The seventh question titled 'DEMO' can be edited and changes can be saved.  



Questions Included in OrChem Demo



Problem 1 - draw structural formula of a given organic substance

Problem 2 - calculating molar mass, determining number of moles of a substance

Problem 3 - caluclating empirical formula of a compound

Problem 4 - balance the equation  

Problem 5 - complete the reaction 

Problem 6 - give the IUPAC name provided the molecular formula 



DEMO - this question allows you to make changes in edit mode and save them



The demo version of the program comes with a full version and a complete set of questions grade 11 chemistry. To activate the full version of OrChem as well as the questions a registration must be purchased.
